Fighting Spam: Gmail's Story Gmail is a webmail service that launched four years ago and has grown significantly since then. The developers of Gmail had an opportunity to try some new approaches to webmail in general and spam-fighting in particular. Many of those new approaches have been successful, and over time Gmail has gotten much better at detecting spam. In this talk, Brad will discuss Gmail's approach to fighting spam, the techniques which have been successful and some of the challenges that remain. About the Author: Known as Gmail's 'Spam Czar', Brad Taylor leads Gmail's technical anti-spam, anti-abuse and email delivery engineering efforts. Brad has played a key role in the development of Gmail's spam filter since Gmail launched in April, 2004. Brad's passion for fighting spam began in 1994 when he received his first unsolicited bulk email. Today, he sits on the front lines in the war against spam and has seen just about every spammer trick imaginable. Brad holds BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University. |
